Ancona may not be an obvious holiday destination, but there's a scruffy charm to it that I like, and there's enough to do here for a couple of days. It's also a good base from which to explore the Marche region of Italy - I used trains and buses to do full-day and half-day trips to numerous interesting towns during my ten-night. (Smaller villages would require a car.)

Ancona in winter is not a tourist destination, but for those who want to experience small town Italy it has much to offer. I would recommend a visit if you are already familiar with the country. The tourist office map has 4 walks which take you around the centre. The Mole has a wonderful museum where blind, partially sighted and curious people can touch all the sculpture casts. Ancona is well connected by bus and train. The Friday market was fascinating.

Very interesting port city with a charming, historic old town. View from the cathedral perched on one promontory is magnificent… and the walk back down through the ancient streets is interesting: friendly people, good and some great restaurants serving local specialties. The Marche wines from the area are a joy to discover.

We used Ancona as an overnight stay to break up a long train ride, in hindsight we would have kept travelling to our destination. Ancona harbour and old town are worth a visit, especially the Centro old part. Our accommodation was some 30 minutes walk from Centro, the walk took in some lovely views, although steep in parts. Our accommodation was only 10 minutes walk from the train station and was quite ok to stay in, the breakfast was very nice.

A mixed city - the industrial port at one end and quiet residential / tourist areas at the other. The western residential area is nice to stay, near the cliffs and Passetto beach. More a place to relax than for frantic sightseeing, although there is history if you want it.

Great town to explore without crowds.
Great town to explore without crowds. Roman ruins and historic buildings and streets. Recommend going to the church in the hill and walking down. Amazing churches/amphitheatre/market/stairways piazza’s without crowds of tourists.
Exceptional hotel with spacious comfortable rooms and easy access to all Ancona has to offer. Professional staff courteous yet friendly, welcoming and more than pleased to offer help with navigating the city and all it has to offer. Food and wine are both exemplary as is the knowledge of the restaurant staff. Well worth a visit to sample the incredible wines. For a small appetite the tricolour salad is an absolute delight.
We picked B&B Arts and Music in Ancona for its central location on a pedestrian street, near many choices of bars and restaurants, and easy access to and from the train station within minutes by the frequent 1/4 bus. Everything was just as advertised. The automatic check-in worked easily. The host did message us to make sure things were ok and responded to an issue with the coffee maker quickly.
I had a great stay with Francesca and Massimo.
The room was very good and everything you expect from a good b&b. Good (and quite) location, but a car is recommended to visit Ancona’s hotspots.
I will definitely come here again on my next visit to Ancona! The way the owners make you feel welcome and there helpfulness is a big 10/10 !!
Thanks again!
Best regards,
Jo
The hotel is very modern, clean, and very comfortable. The individuals who worked at the hotel were very professional, helpful, and overall extremely nice. The breakfast was great, the double espresso was energizing, and the staff always were smiling!!
Overall excellent hotel, right near the center of Ancona.
Perfect location of the apartment on our way to the south of Italy. Appreciated self check in and check out, cleanliness, fresh linens, fast communication with the property’s owner. Thanks a lot. Rate as perfect and surely would recommend as a place to stay.
The location for me was excellent, being in the city center, being a frequent visitor to Ancona, with access to buses, places to eat, close to the port which I enjoyed visiting almost daily. The staff was superb, friendly, attentive and always helpful.
Breakfast all right knowing that breakfast in Italy is mostly just a cappuccino and a croissant. Due to Covid you have to point to the waitress what you want.
Walking distance to the city centre. Free parking place available.
Palazzo Marchetti is a perfect place to stay in Ancona. Located in city centre, 1 km walk from the beautiful beaches, very close to the port. Comfortable beds, beautiful apartment. We totally enjoyed our stay there 🥰
Great host. Very clean with all amenities you could ask for. Really liked welcome basket. Nice location if you plan to discover more of Ancona hidden gems. When we come back next year we will stay few days more...
The Location of the property was close to the port Ancona! We had a beautiful room that overlooked the port it was clean and comfortable! We appreciated the hotel having a restaurant it made it very convenient!
Beautiful hotel with a view on the Adriatic. The rooms were brand new and in pristine condition, extremely clean and close to the port. The breakfast was typical continental which I always like.
The hotel is opposite main Ancona rail station, and as we were so late there were cafe/bars near by,having a large dog there was plenty of room for the 3of us and it is a quiet area.
Location was the best! You could get to Ancona in 10 minutes by bus. Fotos are 100% acurate to the real state of Case Celeste. Owner is very kind and helpful person.
Very nice, clean hotel. Easy to find. With parking space. Good breakfast. Big room and big bed. And very close to ferry port Ancona.
The very friendly staff.
