The resort itself is as the pictures misrepresentative portray. The grounds and pool were nice. We booked this resort for a once-in-a-lifetime trip with our children and grandchildren for our 50th Wedding Anniversary.

The Villa Topaz has an amazing view of the ocean. The location is great and a quick ruk-tuk ride to the town. The beach is a 1-minute walk from the villa.
The staff is amazing, warm and welcoming. The food is delicious.
I also hired the private chef David a couple times and the dinners were scrumptious. I ate octopus practically everyday.
The monkeys came to visit me and are hilarious.
I’m a woman traveling solo and I felt very safe and looked after.

The people are quite friendly including cab divers. The beaches are wonderful. Not too much interference from the beach boys. The area is relatively quiet in the evenings. Good for a person who has relaxation in mind. My favourite beach was Gecko resort. It is easy to get around Watamu with Tuk Tuk or cabs.

A bit expensive as it's made for tourists, so expect European prices (5EUR one beer or 8EUR a cocktail).
The beach is amazing, it's totally worth it :) However, try to be in a beach chair, as those are in private restaurants or hotels; that's the only way the beach boys are not going to annoy you all the time (and even there, they might try to talk to you or stare at you, but it's less likely).
There's a club (Come back club) that we loved, as the atmosphere and music were great :)

Watamu, Kenya, is a stunning coastal destination that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and vibrant local culture. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed by incredibly friendly people who make you feel right at home. The sandy beaches are breathtaking, providing endless opportunities for relaxation, sunbathing, and leisurely beach walks. The warm climate is perfect for enjoying the sun and indulging in outdoor activities like snorkeling, which reveals a mesmerizing underwater world. Watamu is also a haven for food lovers, with fresh seafood and delicious local dishes being a highlight. Whether you’re traveling with family, seeking a romantic escape, or just craving a relaxing getaway, Watamu offers something for everyone, from serene sunsets to memorable shore experiences.
On the downside, the area can be quite loud and a little chaotic at times, especially in busier spots. However, this minor inconvenience is easily overshadowed by the overall charm and tranquility of this coastal paradise. Watamu is a destination that truly captures the heart and offers unforgettable memories. Highly recommended! 🌴☀️

Generally Watamu is a delightful place for a holiday.
Generally Watamu is a delightful place for a holiday. It was great to have a hot weather Christmas holiday. Mostly we ate at home because we had hired a private chef, but when we did eat out we found the local restaurant excellent. The pizzas at Mapango were some of the best I have ever had.

This was a treat stay and exceeded my expectation.
This was a treat stay and exceeded my expectation. Huge beds, air con and ceiling fans, enormous bathroom and a view of the ocean from the room. Staff always keen to ask how they can help. Breakfast had such a wide selection of food and unhurried time to enjoy it whilst looking out to the ocean. I highly recommend Hemmingways.

Very nice and spacious guesthouse with a pool and 5 min walk from love island beach, as well as the main road of restaurants and shops. Staff were friendly and helpful, and Fausto was happy to help us with a taxi to malindi and excursion planning. Great place to stay for our visit to Watamu.
Amazing location with close proximity to Watamu town. It has very welcoming and professional staff. All the meals were great with a good ambience overlooking the beach. I loved the garden; the area was well landscaped with full of well cut grass and palm trees.
Excellent staff, hotel slightly neglected. I think watamu had more tourists in the past. Toilet didn't look great, but then excellent value for money I'd say. Very cheap. Big room
Very clean and spacious rooms, beautiful compound, clean pool. But most of all... Best staff I ever met in a hotel. Always giving their best to be there for the customers.
