Very easy to get around but I recommend a rental car. Lots to see but some of the locations are definitely within driving distance. Alyeska Resort is a must. Tram rail and seven glacier restaurant is very impressive.

I came specifically for the Alaska Winter Train Ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks. It was a breathtaking beautiful ride! I am planning future trips back to Alaska to take more train tours.
The hotel shuttle driver and another hotel guest recommended the seafood chowder at Forty Ninth State Brewing in downtown Anchorage. The driver offered to take me. I ordered the Alaskan seafood chowder with a lager loaf, a garden salad and their "award winning" smoked wings. Bingo! The seafood chowder was delicious with chunks of seafood in a very flavorful creamy broth! It was very good and the lager loaf was scrumptious. Together they made a great combo!
I can see why the "award winning" smoked wings got an award...they were delicious, even cold, the next day!
Customer service here was top shelf. Kristaleigh took my order and made the recommendations for the wings and lager loaf. She was delightful and professional! Overall, it was a very warm environment and pleasant interaction.
Hats off to the chef/cook at the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel restaurant. I spent one night here and ordered take out. I ordered two salmon tacos (scrumptious and very tasty) and steamed veggies which were flavorful and steamed just right! The bartender who took my order was very helpful and professional. Great customer service!

Alaska is so beautiful but Anchorage doesn't show that at all. The city is so gloomy and is not properly taking care of its people. We did find a few good bars and pubs, but walking around on the street just made us sad. Recommend only staying in Anchorage for activities outside of the city (visit Whittier or go hiking in Chugach State Park!) or to pass through on your next adventure to Denali, Fairbanks, Kenai etc. One activity worth doing in Anchorage is the coastal trail, by bike or by foot, you'll definitely spot an eagle or a moose!

This place is great in many respects.
This place is great in many respects. Sure, its not the Sheraton, but we had a comfortable, clean room and all the staff were absolute legends. Their shuttle service was there to pick us up at the airport and drop us off via a pick up from downtown. They stored our luggage on our departure day too - thanks Anthony and the rest of the Merrill crew! They also provided a hearty breakfast which hit the spot perfectly! On top of all this, they gave us good tips for dining downtown and introduced us to the "Red Solo Cup" ... a lot of fun for travel weary aussies!

Anchorage is an interesting small city.
Anchorage is an interesting small city. The mix of cultures - ancient, indigenous, Russian, and modern influences - can be felt in the various museums and eateries. To get a feel for the city, take a bus or walking tour from the Visitors Center, then visit The Alaska Native Heritage Center, Alaska Museum, and Alaska Aviation Museum to pull the indigenous and modern worlds together. Earthquake Park, Kincaid Park and Flattop Mountain are among the open spaces that give a sense of the geography of the area. Public transportation within the city is good. The wide variety of restaurants gives visitors a range of options. Piper's, Midnight Brewery, Fancy Moose, and 49th State Brewery topped our list.
Anchorage is an excellent base for day trips north and south if time in Alaska is limited. Renting a car may be more desirable than a bus or train tour to provide flexibility. Any outing will be an adventure...Alaskan scenery is outstanding and sometimes overwhelming, even on a rainy day!

Motels/hotels are overpriced and falsely advertised.
Motels/hotels are overpriced and falsely advertised. I.e. breakfasts offerings, non working pools
Sooooo many homeless/druggies EVERYWHERE!!!!
Lots of beautiful museums
Fabulous eateries
Parking places/meters eat quarters as snacks
Train ride to Seward was beautiful
Iam angry beyond words! The room is awful ..they required a 200 dollar deposit for one night stay! With a 10 day turnaround to receive your deposit back!’ And a 70 dollar fine to cancel this room reservation when I found this out!!! If I was not so exhausted and didn’t have a flight out of Anchorage Alaska at 6 am I would have drove to the next available hotel !!!!!!! Never never again will I ever stay here...or use booking.com if I don’t get this deposit back!!!’n Please Alert your customers or DROP this location !’nnn
This hotel is directly in front of the Alaskan Railroad Depot in Anchorage and just minutes by taxi from the airport. It is also in downtown Anchorage within walking distance of Avis and local shopping/dining. The hotel is older but has aged gracefully. The owners have maintained the hotel and it is clean. Our room slept 4 with pull out sofa and had a little kitchen area. We used this hotel on three separate occasions for an overnight stay while changing transportation modes during our Alaskan vacation.
The entire staff were wonderful. So friendly and helpful in directing me to "things not to miss". The breakfast was very good and more than adequate to satisfy one's hunger. The room was clean, and nicely decorated. I think they did a super job in renovating the hotel. The hotel is located in the downtown area where most of the museums and other attractions are located. I would stay here again the next time I come to Anchorage.
Breakfast was filling.
Room was big and very comfortable.
The bed was excellent and I would like to stay there again.
The shuttle bus service was exceptional, for around town transport and trip from the hotel to the airport. Both hotel staff and the drivers went above and beyond to make our movements around town as seamless as possible.
I would recommend this hotel to others on the basis of the shuttle service alone.
I was traveling through Alaska in November. I loved the room here. It was clean, spacious with a nice L shaped sofa to cozy up on. The room was warm, quiet with beautiful big windows and a comfortable bed. And the bathroom was beautiful as well. I didn’t try their breakfast as I had other things planned but I did use their airport shuttle service which was very convenient. I’d definitely recommend the hotel.
Current location it was only three blocks from the movie theater the staffer frensley the bed was super comfy I wanted to take it home. It's an older hotel motel and there were only outside entrances which is not bad at all I enjoyed it the shower in the hotel's European shower I loved it it's very rustic-looking I love it definitely consider going back to stay in that hotel when I go to Anchorage
Value is excellent. It was clean. They picked me up from the airport and brought me to hotel 2 am. No problems. I was told upon leaving that there was an hourly drop off to the airport(didn't tell me that on check in) but the driver was happy to take me to the airport right then. Overall would recommend it for a value hotel in Anchorage.
I liked that there was a free shuttle available to take me both to and from the airport and downtown if and when I needed it. Anthony was also very courteous and friendly. The shuttle picked me up in a timely matter after my arrival at the airport and let me check in early, and it wasn't too far from downtown Anchorage.
Room was very spacious with a small sitting/work area, kitchnette, refidgerator.
Very comfortable bed/mattress and pillows. Nice view of the park behind the hotel.
Good TV and wifi service.
Fairly conveniently located to downtown (walking distance).
Good breakfast (hot and continental) with friendly service.
Well appointed room and very clean. The beds and linens are fantastic. Everything you need for a good night's sleep. Great views! The staff are very professional. It is obvious that they are committed to making the guest experience a fantastic one. There is a reason this is the best hotel in Anchorage.
I have been staying at The Lakefront Anchorage for 10 years. This hotel has been perfect! Convenient, great staff, and the best pillows I have ever experienced. (during Covid, the hotel was not up to par) but today they are thriving again.... So glad to see the comeback.... Best place in town.
One of the cheaper hotels in a rather over-priced city. Not as a bad a location as some other reviewers would suggest (Anchorage may be over-rated and over-priced but its centre is not that big, so it wasn't far from anywhere else - though the trains were quite loud).
Staff was very friendly and helpful when checking in. The room was nice and cozy and was "typically" equipped for what you will find in Alaska. Overall, if I had to make the decision again, I'd probably come back, pretty cheap and close to downtown Anchorage.
My wife and I loved this Air BnB and will use it every time we visit Alaska if it’s available. Location, cleanliness, amenities, and overall stay was exceptional. One of the best Air BnB we’ve ever had the pleasure of living in!
Under New awesome management, they went out of their way to be super accomodating and helpful.. the complimentary ride to the airport made this hotel’s service stand above all others I’ve recently been to and twice the price.
I’m staying in this hotel every time when I’m traveling through Anchorage and it meets all my needs)
Special thanks to the girls on the reception desk! Always nice and super helpful
Transfer to hotel is a great advantage
It was quiet and within a walking distance to downtown Anchorage attractions. It was also quiet and the room was pretty big for me and my coworkers. Overall, I liked this location and hotel.
