The room was a good value for the price. I wanted to visit Sekigahara battlefield museum, Hikone Castle, and Azuchi Castle museum & Shiga Prefecture Museum. So staying at the Comfort Inn Hikone was an ideal location. Good breakfast. Very close to Hikone Station.

Gorgeous facilities with a beautiful view and delicious breakfast. We were visiting from USA to see my sister studying at the next door Michigan Center. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to do the same - rooms are western style and spacious and staff are happy to help despite the language barrier.

Hikone Castle is not comparable to Himeji Castle, but its surrounded by many cherry trees. It must look gorgeous during the blossom season. And in the woods below one side of the castle, there are huge number of white birds. It's very impressive to see them returing to their nets in late afternoon. And we do like the lake sunset.

Hikone is easily reached by Shinkansen from Tokyo with a short trip (5 minutes) in a local train. The town has much to offer - an island temple easily reached by boat; a hugely impressive feudal castle (1 of only 4 genuine castles still standing in Japan) with a good museum and surrounded by 2 moats and a beautiful stroll garden. Close to the castle is are attractive streets with good quality shops and some old houses as well. The town is comfortably quiet compared to the nearby Kyoto which is now like Venice and seriously overcrowded.
The one disadvantage which the town could fix very easily is that the bus service does not have information on routes and stops in English unlike Kyoto.
Finally the time to visit is late March early April when the cherry blossom for which Hikone is famous is in flower.

Hikone is just the right distance from Kyoto when travelling by bicycle to ride around Lake Biwa. Its castle grounds turn pink in the spring cherry blossom season and reflect beautifully in the moat's waters. Other seasons have their own distinctive attractions. In all seasons the local beef is great, all you need is an appetite.

Nice castle and the lake.
Nice castle and the lake. It will probably take just a day to see everything. There aren’t really much else to do, so I would recommend Hikone to those, who can’t go to Himeji or who really like castles. There are nice mountains as well, but this is another story.

I enjoyed walking around the castle and garden.
I enjoyed walking around the castle and garden. I was surprised by how much there was to see at the castle grounds. I found myself intrigued by the architecture and most of all the view from the castle was amazing. You get a 360 view of the whole town including Lake Biwa.
In some ways this is one of my favorite places I’ve stayed in Japan. It’s a very comfortable ryokan with a traditional atmosphere. The tatami room and futon were very comfortable, I was happy to have a yukata to wear when relaxing, and the bath is really nice. The gardens and all the decorations really added to the atmosphere. It felt very cozy. It’s also good for solo travelers, and seems to have a variety of rooms for big and smaller groups of guests too.
I could easily located the whereabout of Toyoko Inn while getting out of the train station. There was careful design in how to maximize the use of space while not compromising comfort and ease of movement for two persons sharing a small room. For breakfast, the food was good. There was a fresh supply of food on the serving table.
Really great place to stay! The owner is so warm and welcoming. He went out his way to prepare vegetarian food for me, it was a simple meal with good ingredients prepared with care. Really delicious. Not many places in Japan agree to do this so I really appreciated the gesture.
Free parking, near a mall (food court), communal baths (I didn`t know that until I had already used the one in the room), great breakfast, amazing value, there is a kettle, tea, coffee service in the lobby, quiet although the hotel was clearly full as it was a national holiday
The recommendation of room selection is non-smoking room. I’m the type of people who cannot bear smoke smell any more. Room is very clean which makes me satisfied. If I could have a travel in Hikone again. I’m sure that I will book this hotel again!
Gorgeous spacious room, very traditional with an onsen. Staff really friendly and dropped us to the station, very accommodating. Garden was lovely and very calming. I'd book a family room if possible as it's much bigger and large sliding doors.
The property is a historic building in an interesting residential area located near the Hikone Castle and old town district. Our host was incredibly friendly and welcoming host. It felt very special to stay here in our cozy Japanese style room.
The staff are hard to fault, they were polite, friendly and helpful.
The general aesthetic of the room (and hotel) were great.
The breakfast was execellent both in terms of flavour and variety and things were well organized.
Everything about it: the location (and views), the much-noted breakfast, complimentary beer and hot baths. It was peak cherry blossom so I was spoiled, but I’d happily visit again at other times of the year.
It's a Love Hotel, equipped with all of the hair appliances you need to get ready. Honestly, I wish normal hotels would provide hair straighteners and other hair appliances.
Spacious room, quiet neighborhood, free ramen at night, and onsen with a beautiful view of Lake Biwa. Breakfast was exceptional, too bad we didn't get to try their dinner
